Access Period
GIAC certification attempts will be activated in your GIAC account after your application has been approved and according to the terms of your purchase. Access to stand-alone certification attempts is granted for 120 days from the date of activation. Access to bundled certification attempts is granted for 120 days from the end of the event and/or will match the OnDemand Course deadline. This access period can be extended – please refer to GIAC’s extension process for more information.
Attempting a GIAC Exam
Candidates are not permitted to have multiple active attempts for the same certification in their account at the same time. If a candidate registers for more than one attempt of the same certification, GIAC reserves the right to remove or expire the duplicate attempt without refund.
Candidates can attempt an exam up to three times per year. If you fail a GIAC Certification Exam, you may purchase a retake. The option to purchase a retake will be available for 30 days after your deadline. If you do not purchase a retake within the 30 days following your exam deadline but wish to attempt the exam at a later date, you will need to start over by purchasing a new certification attempt. As you are limited to 3 attempts per year, GIAC reserves the right to reduce the number of retakes or remove the ability to purchase retakes from new attempts to ensure a candidate only attempts an exam up to three times per year. Please see our retake policy here for more information.
When you earn a GIAC Certification, your ability to complete renewal registration starts at the 2-year mark prior to your certification expiration date. Candidates are not permitted to attempt the exam for a certification that they have already earned outside of this renewal period without express written consent from GIAC. If a candidate registers for an exam they have already earned the certification for, and it is outside their renewal window GIAC reserves the right to remove or expire the attempt without refund.
